I love traveling, so choosing a theme for this article was particularly hard for me. I have been to so many fabulous places, and had so many cool adventures... But over-all I would have to say the place that makes my spirits soar, and my heart beat wildly when I see the city skyline... is New York City!

There is no place I have been to, that no matter how many times I go there do I feel so excited... I feel like I will burst! As everyone knows there is so much to do in this city regardless of the time of year. What holds a special place in my heart was staying at the Washington Square Hotel.

The Washington Square hotel was the very first Hotel I ever stayed at in NYC. It was on a girl's trip we were 27 and really into music, fashion, partying and hanging out. Our first trip to the big apple and were we pumped! After some research we chose The Washington Square because of its central location. It is located in Greenwich Village which is the center of New York's bohemian counterculture, reflected by the Beat generation who gravitated to the near-by coffee houses and jazz clubs. The price was right (cheap) the room had ample beds, it is close to Soho, Tribeca, Shoe Shopping, outdoor markets, clothes Shopping, and easy to get to night clubs, CBGB's, Times Square, and Central Park. All in reach by a quick cab ride.

The other reason we chose this hotel was because of its awesome history. We learned this once-grand hotel was allowed to deteriorate into a shabby apartment hotel, making it an affordable location for struggling artists, actors, writers and musicians. We liked the sound of this!!

Ernest Hemingway stayed at the hotel for a few weeks; Bob Dylan, Bill Cosby, Barbra Streisand, the B-52's, Maynard Ferguson and Bo Diddley have all been guests at the hotel. In the 1950's, Dylan Thomas and his wife Caitlin were evicted from the Beekman Hotel after, legend has it, the management got tired of his partying and excessive demands on room service.

On a more recent trip with "the girls", we are all much older and the things we did way back when were not topping our to-do list this time. CBGB's is gone, things have changed. We now have husbands, kids, demanding jobs and want to be pampered! This time around we chose Affinia Shelburne (formerly the Shelburne Murray Hill). It's still Murray Hill, one of the coolest and most convenient of Manhattan neighborhoods.

The neat thing about this place... Rumor has it that Fred Astaire loved to play the rooftop miniature golf course back in the day. Today, it's a rooftop lounge, Rare View, with bar beds, private party space, your favorite adult beverages, and did I mention the views? Like you're on a chessboard between two queens: the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building (Sorry, the mini-golf is long gone.).

Lastly what I will say... about the girls trip... I cannot share much. As what happens in NYC stays in NYC!!''
